nixpkgs now requires the user to explicitly define whether or not to use
the open modules, as they will not be supported for some cards. i can
make this true by default though :normal:

according to `lib.versionAtLeast` `2.90.0` >= `2.90.0-rc1`, but the
opposite is true :/
am i too tired to understand how this is actually right? or is this
incorrect? who knows
